Glenview Hangar One Foundation Annual Meeting, February 12, 2006
On February 12, 2006, the Glenview Hangar One Foundation held its 10th Annual Meeting at the new location for the Naval Air Station Glenview Museum. The Sunday afternoon was a great time for friends and supporters of the Museum to reconnect. This was the first opportunity for the public to visit the Museum since the Village of Glenview approved the zoning variance for occupancy.
The business meeting was hosted by Lt.Col. Gerrit Van Wissink, Secretary and Chairman of the Annual Meeting Committee. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Julia Taicsich. Lt.Col. Van Wissink read the minutes of the last year’s meeting and called for any outstanding ballots for the election of Officers and Directors. Van then introduced Byron Kanaley the Vice President of Finance for GHOF. Byron reported on the financial condition of the organization. At the conclusion of his report Byron introduced Bill Marquardt, President to review 2005, an exciting year of change for GHOF and the Museum. President Marquardt talked about the transition from the Glen Town Center location to the new museum site. He outlined the challenges and process the Board followed to reaffirm the need to have an operational facility to fulfill the mission of the Foundation. During the summer of 2005, the Board unanimously voted to focus its financial and human resources on opening the new Museum. Mr. Marquardt thanked all the Members of the Board for their commitment and leadership. He then turned to Bob Coffin, Irwin Danniel and Eric Lundahl to congratulate and thank them for their individual and collective hard work re-opening the Museum. He commented it would not have happened without them.

Two members of the Board and President Frank Mack had concluded their terms during 2005. All were recognized for their commitment and contribution in getting the previous Museum built and open. Director Bobby Ferguson was the first Museum Director, building, opening and managing a very successful Glen Town Center site. Mr. Ferguson has now gone on to become the North West Great Lakes Area President of the Navy League and GHOF looks forward to working with Bobby in the future. Director Terry Burke was also recognized for his contribution to GHOF through his most notable role as “Air Boss” for the first museum site air show during its dedication. Terry’s flight schedule keeps him busy, but we know he continues to share the mission of GHOF with others in the world of aviation.
GHOF also thanked President Frank Mack for his strong personal commitment to the mission of GHOF and the creation of the first NASG Museum in the Glen Town Center.
Through Frank’s leadership GHOF realized its goal to bring its mission to life and provided the basis on which to build the organization for the future. Frank will be staying involved with GHOF as Past President and Chairman of the Advisory Committee. GHOF and the Museum look forward to benefiting from Frank’s leadership as we look to
our future goals. Thanks were given again to all of the Board of Directors, our volunteers, members and supporters in 2005.

The results of the election were then announced by Lt.Col. Van Wissink. The membership elected Directors Robert Coffin, John Crawford, Mary Long and Edward Taicsich, William Marquardt was elected GHOF President for 2006 and 2007. In addition three changes to the by-laws were approved by ballot from the membership.
After announcing the results of the election, Lt.Col. Van Wissink introduced President Marquardt. The newly elected Board members where recognized and thanked for their commitment to guide GHOF and the Museum for the next two years. Mr. Marquardt then described the goals for the Museum going forward. He focused on three key initiatives; fund-raising, Board/Advisory development and a larger permanent museum/learning center. The most important and immediate focus will be on fundraising. The Foundation has the current financial resources to keep the Museum open for the next 12 to 18 months. Development of a larger membership/donor base is essential to fund the projected $25,000 annual operational cost for the all-volunteer Museum. The needs to take it further and establish a pool of financial resources and a network of contributors for the future location.

The Foundation and Museum will reach out to identify and attract talent for its Board, advisory committee, speaker’s forum and docents. Often times, people associated with GHOF do not realize they have the ability to help the organization through their personal contacts or business relationships. As many people have a passion for the history and our organization, they build an ambassador network that supports the Museum’s mission and goals while broadening the opportunity for the fund-raising initiative. Please consider discussing and referring potential contacts to President Marquardt or the Board to determine the most appropriate method of contact for the referral.
The plan to look beyond our current operational location to build a larger, permanent facility is very important. The Museum's ability to have large display and inactive exhibits along with a Challenger Learning Center is important to the long-term fulfillment of our mission. The development of this long-term plan and its funding structure need to coincide with our short-term development initiatives. The opportunity to communicate a consistent, focused objective for the Foundation and Museum is important to building a solid and growth-orientated base for all phases of our development.

GHOF members and guests listen to the presentation of the 10th Annual Meeting
In closing his remarks, Marquardt thanked Lt.Col. Van Wissink for chairing the Annual Meeting and Nominating Committees. He also asked the membership and guests to consider ways they would like to be involved with the Foundation and Museum to further its growth and financial stability to continue our mission.
Lt.Col. Van Wissink closed the proceedings and invited everyone to stay for refreshments and enjoy visiting the Museum.
