2006 Annual Meeting

Glenview Hangar One Foundation (Hangar One) combined efforts with OliverMcMillan and the village of Glenview to establish a memorial park at the entrance to the tower area of the new Glen Town Center, formerly Hangar One of Naval Air Station Glenview. The name of the area is Navy Park: A Monument to Freedom. Navy Park features three six foot bronze statues, an Aircrew Man, a Yellow shirt, and a Sailor-Mechanic, exact replicas from those on display at the Naval Museum in Pensacola, FL, a flagpole with a Navy ship mast and memorials that display flags that honor the United States of America and NASG, and a tail hook from a carrier aircraft is on display to acquaint visitors with operations aboard the training carriers Wolverine and Sable based on Lake Michigan from 1943-1945. Additionally, insignias of the squadrons and units stationed at NASG are mounted to the buildings surrounding Navy Park and along Tower Drive.

The walkways of Navy Park are paved with 4”X8” personalized granite blocks placed in perpetuity. blocks may be purchased by individuals or groups under the Memorial block Program for $200 each.

The Memorial block Program is structured to reimburse the Village of Glenview for funds advanced by it toward the purchase and installation of the referenced three Navy Park statues and to memorialize the many veterans of NASG, who are honored in the granite blocks, who contributed their time and lives so that we can live as free people in a safe nation.
