2006 Annual Meeting

With the support of the Village of Glenview and Oliver McMillan, the developer of the Glen Town Center, the priority goal of Hangar One over its first seven years had been to work with the Village of Glenview and developer OliverMcMillan to create Navy Park, to restore the NASG control tower and Hangar One façade (“NASG Hangar One”), and to facilitate the inclusion of NASG memorabilia into The Glen Town Center. The concept of Navy Park as a legitimate memorial to the veterans of Naval Air Station Glenview, and to all of the men and women who served, or have served in the armed forces of the US was originated by the Glenview Hangar One Foundation. On June 19, 2004, almost two years after the plan for, and construction of, Navy Park commenced, the Hangar One Foundation formally entrusted the artifacts in Navy Park donated by our sponsors to the people of the Village of Glenview.

THIS MEMORIAL PARK IS DEDICATED TO THE BRAVE AND LOYAL MEN AND WOMEN OF ALL BRANCHES OF THE MILITARY SERVICES THAT TRAINED AND OPERATED AT THE NAVAL AIR STATION GLENVIEW FROM ITS OPENING IN THE YEAR 1937 TO ITS CLOSING IN THE YEAR 1995 AND TO THE ADDITIONAL THOUSANDS OF CIVILIAN MEN AND WOMEN WHO WORKED HERE DURING THOSE YEARS TO SUPPORT THESE SERVICE PERSONNEL AND THEIR MISSION

Navy Park features three six-foot statues, an Aircrew Man, Yellow shirt, and a Sailor-Mechanic. Reproduction of the sculptures is through the courtesy of the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Pensacola FL where the originals are on display. NavyPark also features a flagpole, donated by the family of Ret. Lt. Col. Gerrit Van Wissink, that was located at the main gate of NASG from 1941-1960, then the coast guard facility from 1969 until NASG was decommissioned on 9 September, 1995. Insignias of the squadrons and units stationed at NASG, donated by OliverMcMillan are mounted on the buildings surrounding Navy Park and Tower Drive. At the furthest East end of Navy Park is a tail hook from a Navy AD-1 SkyRaider, donated from Mrs. Joyce Licko wife of Captain Richard J. Licko USN, Executive Officer of the USS John Hancock. Navy Park is home to hundreds of personalized granite blocks that memorialize the many veterans of Naval Air Station Glenview that sacrificed their time, and sometimes lives, so we can live as free people in a safe nation.

More than 10 thousand primary aviation cadets have trained at Navy Park. NASG Glenview was played as an indispensable role in winning World War II in the Pacific theater. NASG remained one of the premier Naval and Marine carrier pilot training air bases during the remainder of its history, during the Korean Conflict, the Cold War, Vietnam and Desert Storm. Navy Park is a very important place to the Hangar One Foundation and the members and veterans that we represent.

4"X 8" granite blocks pave the paths of Navy Park, and are available for personalized engraving through the Hangar One. Please support Hangar One by purchasing a tax-deductible personalized block and etch your name in perpetuity into NASG history. ::Order Personalized block [bricks.asp]::

The efforts of Hangar One are entirely funded through tax-deductible financial contributions, and you can support us and our mission in three ways. As mentioned above, you can become a permanent part of Navy Park, NASG Hangar One and The Glen Town Center by purchasing a personally engraved granite block for $150 . You can also support Hangar One by becoming Members. Annual membership dues are $50.00 and $25.00 for seniors and students under the age of 21. And of course, you can support Hangar One by making unrestricted and restricted donations. Given our status as a not-for-profit foundation under 501(C)(3), the financial support you make to Hangar One can be treated as a tax-deductible charitable contribution.
